Despite all the bad news surrounding Manchester United this season, it has not deterred David Moyes from continuing his search for new players, and he knows that he will have to be first out of the starting blocks to beat some of the heavily financed competitors.

To be fair to Moyes, he has not been sat on his hands and he has had Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho watched at least EIGHT times this season. It has also been reported that Sporting have already lined up a replacement for the midfield star in the shape of Estoril's Goncarlo.

Manchester Have a very good relationship with Sporting where they originally got Ronaldo so there will not be the same problems as they had last summer. The very fact that Sporting have lined up a replacement signifies that they are prepared to let the midfield star leave this summer, although the buyout price of £37m is a bit steep. However, such is the promise of this Angolan-born player that United are prepared to pay a huge fee for his services. They are also mindful that he has played for the Portugal national teams from U-17 onwards.

Manchester United are also tracking another midfielder, however, this player is one for the future, and his is destined to be at the very top. Harrison Reed is yet another of those players from the famous Southampton Academy who has already player five times for the first team despite still being just 19 years old. Moyes has also had him watched a number of times and is likely to make a move this summer for the youngster.

Moyes and his team of scouts have been busy since last summer in identifying not just ready-made stars, but those with bright futures and Reed fits the bill in every way.

I expect Manchester United to make their moves very early in the transfer window before the big hitters get involved.
