Los Angeles Lakers: The Most Dangerous Team, The League’s Dark Horse This Coming NBA 2016-17 Season
You know what they say: when your back is against the wall, that's when you become even more dangerous. When you don't have any way but up, that's when you become even more unpredictable. When you got nothing to lose, that's when the warrior's heart comes out of you.
And that's the same for the Los Angeles Lakers when NBA returns this October. Their backs are against the wall, they have nothing to lose, and the only way for them right now is to go up.
No Superstar for the First Time
After Kobe Bryant retired, many thought the Lakers front office will try to catch big names from the free agency during the offseason that will lead them next season. Considering the amount of money vacated by the Black Mamba from the payroll, the Lakers might be able to get at least two big names.
Alas, we were wronged. All we heard from Lakers insiders were a bunch of rumors but saw no action. No superstar arrived. But for this reason that the Lakers could become a better team - there's no superstar. Everyone needs to compete and give each other's best just to get the starting position spot on a daily basis.
No superstar? No need to worry. Looking on the brighter side, each and every one from the Lakers team can be considered dark horses. Yes, dangerous, unpredictable, and nothing to lose.
Strongest Starting Five
Unless there will be some unforeseen circumstances, which could prevent them from playing, Jordan Clarkson and D'Angelo Russell will be the starting two guard positions - the Lakers own version of the Fast and the Furious. The other three spots are all up for grabs. So who could possibly be these other three players that will make up the strongest lineup for the Lakers?
As what we've mentioned before, at some point the strongest starting lineup would be the backcourt combination of Clarkson and Russell, plus, Brandon Ingram, Julius Randle and Ivica Zubac. And this is actually one of the youngest, quickest starting lineups in the coming NBA season.
LA Lakers Has Depth, Balance
Then there's also Luol Deng, Yi Jianlian and Timofey Mozgov. Along with Clarkson and Russell, this could probably be the Lakers' starting lineup.
What's good is that the Lakers bench is deep in almost all positions. Compared to last season's roster, there is balance in the current Laker's roster. Aside from the eight players already mentioned, these are the players who will fill the Lakers' roster:
Backcourt: Jose Calderon (PG), Marcelo Huertas (PG), Lou Williams (SG), Nick Young (SG/SF)
Frontline: Zach Auguste (F), Tarik Black (F/C), Larry Nance Jr. (F)
And perhaps the best thing to happen is, there's only one leader on the floor - Coach Luke Walton.
