MLB Trade Rumors: Ryan Braun To LA Dodgers for Yasiel Puig
Los Angeles Dodgers Outfielder Yasiel Puig has developed some discipline after his demotion to Oklahoma City. He's also solidified his position in the team, posting a respectable .357/.474/.1.000/1.474 in September.
However, his attitude change may not stop him from being traded, as talks will likely continue in the offseason between the Dodgers and the Milwaukee Brewers. Six-time All-Star outfielder Ryan Braun is also included in the talks for a trade between the two stars.
Brewers and Dodgers executives who had direct knowledge of the trade talks were reportedly 20 minutes away from being traded, but the teams simply ran out of time before the August 31 MLB trade deadline passed.
According to USA TODAY Sports, Braun was said to be interested in moving to another team.
"I think it would be inappropriate for me to get into any detail about any of that stuff,'' Braun said in the interview. "Obviously, I live in Los Angeles in the offseason. I grew up a Dodger fan. When those conversations started, I think it was an interesting position for me to be in. But I love Milwaukee. I'm happy being a Brewer. And if those conversations were to continue, we'll see where they lead.''
Both teams agreed to continue trade negotiations this winter, since pulling off the trade will seemingly benefit both the rebuilding plans of the Brewers, and the "Win Now" mentality that the Dodgers are currently in.
Braun, who is in the midst of a resurgence after his drug suspension in 2013, is playing his best season yet, after undergoing back surgery last year. He's hitting .310 with 27 home runs, 82 RBI and a .916 on-base plus slugging, which currently ranks him 9th in the National League.
Puig, on the other hand, is shaping up to be a respectable slugger himself, posting a .857 slugging average in his last seven games, including three home runs. With his trajectory and if the trade pushes through this off season, Puig may be playing for a Brewers team contending for the title in a few years.
