NFL Rumors: Cleveland Browns Signing Johnny Manziel To Replace RG3?
The Cleveland Browns continue to look for options following the unfortunate mishap that befell a redemption-bound Robert Griffin III. Taken out right in his very first game against the Philadelphia Eagles, the Browns need to find a replacement and fast.
RG3’s injury has forced the browns to place him on IR and iSports did mention two possible names to fill in for the injured 26-year-old quarterback. Geno Smith of the New York Jets and Colin Kaepernick of the San Francisco 49ers were weighed in on separately the past days.
How about Johnny Manziel?
With nothing happening as of yet as the Browns weigh their options, there is another potential name that the Brown could consider – Johnny Manziel. The only problem here is that the 23-year-old player is the same player who was released by the team back in March due to distractions, FanSided noted.
That alone could make a second chance improbable. It may all depend on what is left on the table for the Browns, who may scramble to fill in the big hole left by Griffin. The thing with RG3’s case is that while many have counted him out for the season, the final verdict is still not out.
The injury he sustained is not his throwing arm so it will more likely be a precautionary measure in the event his season is considered officially done.
Worth noting as well is that if Manziel is given the call, he cannot immediately play. He is facing a four-game suspension due to substance abuse, meaning he cannot be an immediate replacement for Cleveland, NFL reported.
With his personal conduct under fire, Manziel thus looms as the last resort unless he proves to be a changed man. Aside from the substance abuse, he is also facing domestic violence charges tied up to his ex-girlfriend, Colleen Crowley.
Do the Browns need a distraction in Manziel? From the looks of it, it will be last of their options if ever.
