NFL Rumors: Minnesota Vikings Could Pursue Ronnie Hillman, Karlos Williams To Replace Adrian Peterson? [POLL]
The injury bug continues to bite NFL teams and the Minnesota Vikings are no exception. The latest victim is Adrian Peterson, someone who could be out for a while on account of a knee injury.
The real score on his injury has been sketchy. ESPN reports that his torn meniscus injury may or may not require surgery. It was limited to cartilage and not ligaments leaving a slim ray of hope, which could see him return in a couple of weeks.
Just the same, the Vikings cannot afford the wait-and-see approach on Peterson. It may be time for them to seek options and two names come to mind – Ronnie Hillman and Karlos Williams.
Why Ronnie Hillman?
Hillman is reportedly being shopped by the Denver Broncos, someone who has become expendable following the rise of C.J. Anderson. He is jockeying for the no. 3 running back job where everything may depend on how effective he can be for the Broncos.
Hillman’s stock has not diminished. It is just that he finds himself in the company of a crowded roster. Many believe he can still contribute but that all depends on which team he ends up. Could the Vikings be that team?
Why Karlos Williams?
If not Hillman, Karlos Williams who last played for the Buffalo Bills could be an option. The problem is that Williams is currently serving a four-game suspension for violating the NFL’s substance abuse, meaning he cannot immediately play.
Signing Williams may be a gamble for the Vikings though work may be done to get him back into competitive form. He was cut by the Bills for being overweight and it is likely that he will need to measure up for the Vikings just in case.
Given those options, it will be up to the Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer to decide. Will he go for a Ronnie Hillman trade or sign up an off-form running back Karlos Williams?
