NFL Injury Update: Cleveland Browns Rookie QB Kessler Likely to Start as Josh McCown Sustains Injury
The woes for the Cleveland Browns continue with the injury to Josh McCown. The fill-in quarterback is expected to sit out a fair amount of time, joining Robert Griffin III on the sidelines.
That said, Cleveland Browns head coach is left with no choice but to go with third-string and rookie quarterback Cody Kessler unless the team is able to snag in a new name to hold the fort.
The Browns are rumored to be on the prowl for a free agent quarterback though there are options if they can pull of trades with other teams. Among the notable names are Colin Kaepernick or even controversial Johnny Manziel.
Given the short notice, everything points to Kessler getting the bump at least for the Browns for week 3. What happens from there could depend on how the former USC player performs.
Is Kessler ready for the challenge?
Working against the Browns is the fact that Kessler has not thrown a pass in the regular season. His last appearance was in the preseason when he completed 10 of 17 pass attempts in a loss to the Chicago Bears, Bleacher Report reported.
Kessler is aware of the opportunity and looks ready to take on the challenge. It will be a daunting task for the third-round pick, which could dictate his fate in the NFL. He gets the chance to show Jackson that against the Miami Dolphins.
Obviously, the Browns still need to find a second quarterback and Charlie Whitehurst has been mentioned. Whitehurst played for the Tennessee Titans and the Indianapolis Colts last season and his agency revealed he would be signing up soon.

If not Whitehurst, Kevin Hogan could be another option. He is on the practice squad and there is a chance he may be elevated to the active roster.
