Rudy Gay is on his way out of Sacramento Kings, something that hardly came as a surprise. Gay has allegedly declined his player option, meaning he could eventually be dealt out.

With no hold on Gay, the Kings have reportedly started to shop the 30-year-old forward and any deal will depend on what Sacramento will get in return. Until something credible happens, Gay will be suiting up for the Kings for the 2016-17 NBA season.

Kings want something crazy for Gay?

There are several teams reportedly inquiring about Gay but the Kings are the ones standing in the way. The Kings are hoping to get someone special or a substantial amount in exchange for Gay.

Gay is set to make $13 million this season and $14.3 million after the 2016-17 NBA wars. By declining that option, it seems common knowledge that Gay will try to fish for something bigger, again possible because of the rising NBA salary cap.

Who needs a scoring machine?

Any team would do well to take in Gay, seeing how he was the Kings’ second-leading scorer last season. He is perfect from the wings which other teams could benefit from.

One team that could seriously look into adding Gay are the Oklahoma City Thunder. With Kevin Durant gone, the Thunder are lacking wing support and scoring sock which make Gay a perfect fit if it can be pulled off.

That said, team owner Vivek Ranadive may be forced to make a move soon unless he opts to take the risk of getting nothing in return. The clock starts now until the February trade deadline which could be a rocky couple of months for both Gay and the Kings.

This is despite the fact that Ranadive prefers to keep Gay in the roster. Anything can happen it may take a lot to persuade Gay to stay, an outrageous paycheck which will likely be dangled by the Kings’ owner just to keep the proven scoring forward.
