NFL Rumors: Pierre Thomas, Brandon Wilds Among Possible Replacement for Adrian Peterson? [POLL]
The Minnesota Vikings are now pushed to a corner following word that their star running back will be undergoing knee surgery. This will sideline the 31-year-old running back for several months to repair his torn meniscus, but there is a possibility he may return this December.
As speculated in a previous post, Ronnie Hillman has been signed up to fill in the slack. He will try to fit in with Jerick McKinnon and Matt Asiata as well as quarterback Sam Bradford, NFL.com reported.
Do the Vikings need another running back?
Despite the fact that the Vikings have already signed up Hillman, the team could do well to add more just in case the injury bug decides to bite some more. All that will depend on what Mike Zimmer wants as a precautionary measure.
Two names come to mind -- Pierre Thomas or Brandon Wilds. The difference between the two is that Wilds can inject fresh legs to the Vikings, while Thomas can stand out as a veteran to aid the roster.
As mentioned earlier, there is a chance that Peterson may be back by December if he heals fast. Hence, it may be a wise investment to go with Thomas and add a veteran to fire up the boys in the locker room.
Thomas is rich in experience, a lot of which he showed when he was with the New Orleans Saints. He was the security cushion of Drew Brees and could do the same for Sam Bradford.
Additionally, he could be a favorite receiver of Bradford’s passes. He was an elite pass-catching tailback for the Saints so that alone could be something to consider, Fansided reported.
The only thing about Thomas is his age (31, turning 32 this December). Assuming the Vikings make it to the NFC Playoffs, he could be a big asset to Zimmer’s charges.
