New York Knicks Snubbed Jeremy Lin Because of His Poor Defensive Abilities?
Before he got on board and signed with the Brooklyn Nets, Jeremy Lin was also linked to a possible return to the New York Knicks. That of course never happened and the reason behind it may have just been revealed.
The New York Post reports that one reason why Lin was never in the cards was because of his struggles in defense. However, one has to question when the Knicks made the evaluation on Lin. Was this in reference to Lin’s last stint with the Knicks back in 2011-12?
Steve Clifford disagrees
The reason for asking is in connection to something mentioned in a previous post. Recall that Lin played last year for the Charlotte Hornets and made a good account for himself under head coach Steve Clifford.
Clifford is perhaps in a better position to make a proper evaluation of Lin, considering this is the same guy who has improved through the years. It is possible that Lin’s defensive prowess has been overshadowed by his offensive arsenal, his hustle plays in particular.
That plus the bumps and bruises he has been getting are testament alone that Lin does play defense though not at the level of marquee stoppers. Nevertheless, Lin has a chance to prove the Knicks’ take wrong with the Nets this coming season.
Well-rounded Lin needs to show up in Brooklyn
As most know, Lin is expected to start for the Nets this coming season, where he will have to step up his game. It will not plainly be about dishing and driving, it will also be about becoming a leader.
Playing defense is included in the mix with Lin needing to show the young guys how to play good defense through hustle. Nets coach Kenny Atkinson can help out in that area though the 28-year-old American-Asian is likely aware of the flak going on as we speak.
