There is currently little to no talks and rumors of a rematch between boxing greats Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao. But veteran ringside commentator and boxing analyst Larry Merchant thinks it is a distinct possibility, especially if money is involved.

BoxingScene quoted Merchant, who said that a second fight between the two pound-for-pound best fighters in the sport is not far from materializing. The first fight was a huge hit in terms of commercial success and that people will try to stoke the two to fight again in the future.

"That fight was such an amazing event and just as amazing a bust in the ring," Merchant said. "Business people will try to bring it back because if it does a third of the business, it will still be a big event."

Merchant, however, isn't excited with the prospect of Mayweather and Pacquiao meeting in the ring for the second time. A rematch is not going to be an improvement of the first bout, he said. "I am depressed about it," Merchant added.

Asked for a potential return to the ring, Mayweather said it is unlikely. The undefeated boxer who won titles in five different divisions said he'd rather spend his time and energy on Mayweather Promotions, his promotional and events company.

In another BoxingScene report, Mayweather said he's focused on building young fighters and guiding them to follow his footsteps. His company has already produced three world champions, including Badou Jack, the current WBC super middleweight titleholder.

"So many young fighters that want to get to a certain plateau in the sport of boxing," he said. "I'm just here to help, lend a helping hand."

As for Pacquiao, he is juggling politics work as an elected senator in the Philippines and preparations and training for his return to the ring on November 5 in a welterweight title bout against Jessie Vargas. The Filipino boxing icon is reportedly looking for two more fights if he wins against Vargas.
