Yasiel Puig provided the heroics early as his three-run homer paved the way for a Los Angeles Dodgers 9-3 win over the San Francisco Giants. The win cements the Dodgers' hold on the NL West, extending their lead over the Giants to six games. They just need to win five more games to clinch the division.

"We've put ourselves in a pretty good spot," Dodgers Manager Dave Roberts said. "We want to continue to keep pressing on. We're in a good place. But it can always get better."

The Dodgers put the game away early, bouncing back from a shutout last game, which showcased the struggles that the Dodgers have against lefty pitchers. Puig, who was recalled from the Triple-A just this September, hit against Giants ace Matt Moore, a lefty who haunted the Dodgers in his last appearance at Dodger Stadium on August 25.

"Last time [Moore] had every single pitch going for him," Dodgers outfielder Enrique Hernandez said. "Tonight he was kind of missing his spots, making a lot of mistakes. We made him pay for it."

In Moore's previous start against the Dodgers, he almost got a no-hitter, racking up 26 outs before allowing his first hit. That game however, didn't feature Puig, who at the time was playing for Oklahoma City in the minor leagues. Puig proved to be a game-changer, homering off Moore's fastball, and flashing the potential he has of being a world-class baseball player.

Moore, on the other hand, was raked early by the Dodgers, allowing six hits and seven runs in one inning before calling it a day. The lefty gave more hits on Wednesday than the five in the two games he's faced them.

"It's a bad day to have a bad day," Moore said postgame. The loss drops Moore to 4-5 since joining San Francisco via trade in August 1.

The Dodgers win the series, 2-1, and will face the Colorado Rockies next.On the other hand, the Giants head to San Diego to face the Padres. The Giants are currently tied with the New York Mets and the St. Louis Cardinals at 80-72, as the three teams continue to battle for the two wild card slots.
