AMD Latest News, Rumors and Release Date: Radeon RX 490 at CES 2017, GDC 2017 or Perhaps a Separate Event?
Radeon RX 490 is becoming the most talked about GPU today. Why? It is because of the simple reason that this would be AMD's first attempt to break NVIDIA's "most advanced gaming graphics card ever created," the GeForce GTX 1080, and probably "the ultimate graphics card," GeForce Titan X.
Powered by HBM2, Radeon RX 490 is created using AMD's Vega architecture, which will be unveiled in the first half of 2017. As many reports suggested, Radeon RX 490 will be the first GPU under Vega or Vega 10 to be exact.
As we have reported recently, there will be four releases using AMD's Vega architecture - Vega 10, Vega 11 (H2 2017), Dual Vega 10 (Q2 2017), and Vega 20 (2018). And as far as releases are concerned, Vega 20 is going to be AMD's bet against NVIDIA's next GPU architecture, Volta.
For now, what we know is that AMD Radeon RX 490 is the only GPU set for release in the first half of 2017. But when are we going to see the power of Radeon RX 490? Does AMD have a target date for its unveiling and making Radeon RX 490 available on the market?
Possible Radeon RX 490 Unveiling Date Surface
Many suggests that AMD might bring Radeon RX 490 closer to people by going to events like Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in January or the Game Developer's Conference (GDC) in March. Some even suggest it could be at Electronic Entertainment Expo, but it may be too late since the event is held every June. Perhaps they could unveil Dual Vega 10 at E3.
Yet, remember AMD Radeon Sr. Marketing Director Chris Hook's teaser on his Facebook page? There's a photo showing an abandoned warehouse, which Hook described as the Vega launch venue. What Radeon Technology Group's Nick Knupffer commented could possibly be the hint since he revealed Hook suggested they will just need "renovations" on the venue.
This only shows AMD plans to have a separate unveiling of AMD's Vega architecture, which will feature Radeon RX 490 as its first GPU. Where is it, it could be near their Sunnyvale, California office. When is it? Well, the best possible date would be Q1 of 2017.
We'll bring you more updates on AMD Radeon RX 490, soon.
