Cleveland Cavaliers Eyeing Trade for Rudy Gay? [POLL]
The Rudy Gay sweepstakes are on and any NBA team can pitch at the 30-year-old scoring forward. That includes the defending NBA champion Cleveland Cavaliers.
As most hoop fans known by now, J.R. Smith is still unsigned. While the wait is seen nothing more than a matter of numbers, what if the talks suddenly go sour?
The Cavs, of course, have more than enough firepower left though it never hurts to add some key additions. And Rudy Gay would be a big fish to catch if the Cavs could find a way to reel him into the roster.
What can the Cavaliers offer?
Looking at the roster of the Cavs, the team hardly has anyone that the Kings would be interested in outside the ‘big three’. Iman Shumpert seems the only one that could make sense unless the Cavs opt to sign and trade Smith for Gay.
That is, of course, wishful thinking considering it breaks the bond that coach Tyron Lue has already established. Hence, it may end up requiring a third team plus cash considerations to materialize.
Undoubtedly, Gay can be of big help particularly on the open court. But co-existing with LeBron James could render him no more than a backup player.
Everyone knows what Gay is capable of and seeing him demoted to that level seems a bit off. If that were the case, he would be better off taking his act to other teams who would value him more and put him to work.
Title or playing time?
Then again, Rudy Gay could trade all that for an NBA ring. The Cavs remain favorites mainly because of their talented core though the Golden State Warriors have seriously ramped up their chances with Kevin Durant in tow.
For Gay, that could be an easy way to achieving every NBA player’s dream and something that will likely draw heavy criticism. But before all that, the pieces need to be placed and somehow they just don’t fit for now.
