La Liga Week 6 Schedule, Live Stream, Table, Standings: Real Madrid Face Las Palmas, FC Barcelona To Collide With Sporting Gijon
Real Madrid is looking to stay on top of the La Liga Table as it takes on Las Palmas this Saturday. Zinadine Zidane's squad is looking to bounce back after a lackluster performance against Villareal. Said Zidane after the match:
"In the second half we could have won, but the first half obviously no we weren't good enough," Zidane told reporters. "It's tough. It was a difficult game and we put a lot of effort in, but these things can happen, and it has happened. We've dropped two points at home, but we're not going to change the way we want to do things."
Real Madrid are currently on top of the La Liga table with 13 points, two points ahead of Sevilla and three ahead of rival Barcelona. They will aim to secure their standing without midfielder Casemero, who suffered a broken leg in Sunday's game against Espanyol, and will miss three weeks.
Meanwhile Barcelona's star midfielder Lionel Messi suffered a groin injury in their 1-1 draw against Atletico Madrid, and will miss their game against Sporting Gijon. The Barca's leader in goals and assists in all competitions, will miss three weeks of action, including the Champions League match against Borussia Monchengladbach and La Liga game against Celta Vigo.
"Leo Messi will be out of action for around three weeks," Barcelona said in a statement. "The Argentine star tore a muscle in his groin."
Messi is having a splendid start to Barca's campaign this year, with a club-leading eight goals in eight appearances, as well as tying for first with five assists. "Football lost today, and we lost Messi to injury," Barcelona manager Luis Enrique, who also had to cope with Sergio Busquets hobbling off the field, said. Last year he had a longer injury and we overcame it."
However, other Barca players feel that the squad can hold their own while Messi is out. The Argentine missed nine games last season and the Catalonian side rose to post seven wins, one draw, and one defeat. It was a sterling performance that showed others step up to the scoring vacuum. "The team is stronger with Messi than without him, but it is the squad as a whole that wins titles," Andres Iniesta said.
