With games coming in at a skyrocketed price, getting every bit of the good stuff from them as freebies can make the price worth it. Be it as a pre-order exclusive contents, early DLCs or in the like of NBA 2K17 for example, a multi-digit virtual currency that will let you buy in-game stuffs without the need to resort to real-life money.

Since the game has just made its official release for those who pre-ordered the game not long ago, there was an ongoing trend about the franchise that keep curious gamers referring to the internet involving the so-called "locker codes." In fact, as of the game's release, those same two words have been the most searched about keyword using the Google search engine, according to The Gamers Rant.

But are these "locker codes" a real thing or just a elaborate hoax? Is this something that online pranksters did just to hype people about the game, simply just to trick them into believing, or worse, put a scamming scheme underneath it all?

Some claims they were given a code that gave them 100,000 amount of virtual currency, while others claimed the received more than that after getting a million amount of the same currency. Others even said that there is a glitch in-game, which makes their virtual currencies unlimited.

Officially, 2K Sports have not released any codes pertaining to it and that most references that say otherwise are those, which come from the social media. This makes the claims rather sketchy and rumors only at best, especially if there never was an official 2K page as a valid source of the information.

Personally, I would not buy this kind of rumor as of this point especially when the developers of the game did not even have a say to it. And with websites such as the nba2k17-lockercodes.com popping up claiming that they have the codes instead behest of 2K, you should be wary as you might just lose something instead of getting something from it. You never know.

In the meantime, 2K and its NBA guru, Ronnie2K, are still mouth shut as to the real issue behind this seemingly viral rumor.
