Borussia Dortmund vs Sporting CP: UEFA Champions League Preview, Live Stream, Where To Watch
Borussia Dortmund is set for their Tuesday clash in Lisbon against Sporting FC in Group F, which is currently on the verge of a triple tie at the top of the standings.
As reported by ESPNFC, Dortmund may be situated at the top of the rankings on four points, but are only ahead of Real Madrid on goal difference. Sporting FC, meanwhile, is just a point behind.
The entire club is treating their game against Sporting FC as if it were one of their biggest this year. So much so that they broke off from their tradition and went on to make sure that they arrived earlier than usual in Lisbon, and give themselves more preparation time. As noted by the club's director of sport Michael Zorc, doing so would relieve the team from the stress of travel, and would allow themselves some time for recovery.
"These two games against Lisbon are going to be very significant for the outcome of the group. It's about ensuring we are better than them in the head-to-head," Zorc wrote in as statement published in the team's official website.
The current UEFA Champions League tournament will also be the Dortmund's first one without midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan. The 27-year-old midfielder joined Manchester United in July on a four-year contract, with a reported transfer fee between £27 million and £30 million, including an option to extend for another playing year.
The said move of Mkhitaryan was apparently a peculiar one for the club's Chief Executive Officer, Hans-Joachim Watzke. According to a report by Pete South for Daily Mail, Watzke also believes Mkhitaryan will no longer be welcome back in Dortmund, if his stint with ManU should turn out to be unsuccessful.
"No. Any intelligent player should consider in advance what kind of environment they are moving to," Watzke said when asked about Mkhitaryan's return. "When you are playing in surroundings where things are working for you, like in Dortmund, then it is quite strange to give that away again once things have finally started to work out for you after a long time settling in."
The Borussia Dortmund vs Sporting CP UEFA Champions League match will start at 2:45 p.m. ET. TV schedule and live stream details are available on Live Soccer TV.
