US-based global cable and sports channel network ESPN will be airing across America the Drone Racing League. Drone Racing League, a New York-based company,  has announced on Sept. 14, 2016 that the game's 2016 season series will be aired on Oct. 23 on ESPN and ESPN 2.

DRL said the international broadcast distribution with ESPN and other cable networks outside America will feature the game's 25 First Person View (FPV) pilots coming from eight identified countries.

The fastest FVP pilots will be competing to get a professional contract for the game's 2017 season. The pilots will vie to get the "World's Greatest Drone Pilot" title.

"This is an incredibly exciting day for DRL. Our team has worked tirelessly to develop the technology, racecourses, and sporting rules needed to deliver the most elite, competitive, and thrilling drone racing league on the planet. We can't wait to share it with fans around the world," said DRL CEO/Founder Nicholas Horbaczewski in a press statement.

Horbaczewski pointed out that the broadcast agreement with ESPN, Sky and 7Sports can be viewed as a "strategic" move in its bid to draw in 10 million viewers globally.  DRL is ESPN's adrenaline-packed newest sports that would surely provide gamers thrill and suspense in what touted to be the best professional race series for drone racing, Silicon Beat reported.

6 Drone Pilots

According to Chicago Tribune, ESPN's  Drone Racing League features six pilots who will remotely control drones while donning a google that provides them a visual footage from the cockpit. These six pilots will navigate specific courses such as malls, stadiums, tunnels and other similar  three-dimensional courses.

Matthew Volk, ESPN Director of programming and acquisitions, said DRL treats drone fans a unique gaming adventure that has been merged with visually-packed adventure; equipped with high-end technology and filled with narrative-rich storytelling.

Volk has expressed hope that DRL would be able to fulfill the expectations of the fans as it introduced a emerging sport. The broadcast of the adrenaline-packed Drone Racing League will commence on Sunday, Oct. 23 at ESPN 2 culminating from its "Intro To Drone Racing" episode. DRL's first race will be at exactly 10 p.m.
