Golden State Warriors 15-Man Roster To Include JaVale McGee?
NBA veteran JaVale McGee will likely be included into the final roster of the Golden State Warriors for the upcoming 2016-2017 regular season.
In August, the eight-year NBA veteran signed a non-guaranteed one-year contract with the 2015 champions for an opportunity to be part of the Warriors' training camp. Having spent last season in Dallas where he only got to play 34 games, McGee hopes to reignite his career with a championship-caliber team.
After the team lost both Festus Ezeli and Andrew Bogut in the off-season due to free agency, the Warriors opted to have McGee on board in camp to help fill in the void left by the two big men. It was a move that proved to be a good one so far for the Warriors after all.
To his credit, he was able to put on an impressive showing during Golden State's pre-season game against the Los Angeles Lakers on Saturday night. According to a report by SFGate.com, the 28-year-old big man scored 12 points along with four rebounds and two blocks through 14 minutes of playing time to help with his team's 112-107 victory. So much so that he earned the praises of head coach Steve Kerr.
"JaVale, he did some great things. That dunk was obviously spectacular. We're just trying to give him a chance, get him comfortable and see what he can do," Kerr said right after the game.
Given his solid performance in camp and in the pre-season, things are indeed looking brighter for McGee. As reported Anthony Slater for the San Jose Mercury News, Warriors' Kerr later confirmed that he is thinking of filling the last roster spot with McGee.
"I think he's got a good chance (of making the roster). He's had a good camp," Kerr in turn said on Monday.
