Thor: Ragnarok to have '80s vibe and a "Taika-esque tone", Director Waititi

Thor: Ragnarok helmer Taika Waititi revealed he has not seen Captain America: The Winter Soldier yet and claimed that his movie will have a "Taika-esque tone" due to Marvel being "very accepting" of his style.

He also teased that Bruce Banner will be the breakout character in the film, so maybe Mark Ruffalo will finally get to do something as cool as his "I'm always angry" moment from The Avengers, AV Club notes.

If you thought Benedict Cumberbatch's magic wielding-sage was the weirdest thing coming to Marvel's cinematic universe, think again; with the studio next handing its reins over to the visionary comedic mind of New Zealand's Taika Waititi, who's nearing a wrap on filming Thor: Ragnarok.

Anyone familiar with Waititi's style - he happens to be behind one of this year's best films, Hunt for the Wilderpeople - will know that the director was certainly an unusual choice for Marvel; leaving many fans questioning as to what direction he'll take Thor and Hulk in what's been pitched as an 'intergalactic buddy road movie". A lack of context might be a good thing if you think Marvel needs a bit of a refresh. "I think TR will be one of the most adventurous and most 'out there' of all the Marvel movies," Waititi wrote, as per Independent. "It's a crazy movie," he further said.

It probably won't be similar to much else in the Marvel universe, given that Waititi also admitted he decided to basically pretend that universe didn't exist. "I made an effort to ignore the fact that there are other Thor films," he wrote. "I'm trying to ignore the rest of the universe and just make my own awesome movie." He also said he hasn't seen Captain America: The Winter Soldier yet.

Throughout the eight year run of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, an eclectic blend of directors have made their mark in the world of superheroes and villains. From Jon Favreau's first Iron Man film, to Joe and Anthony Russo's tenure on Captain America: Civil War, the directors you'd least expect to make superhero films have done just that. This factor, in the mind of Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi, is the key to the longevity of the MCU, and should be preserved at all costs.
