NBA Trade Rumors: Charlotte Hornets Eyeing Zach Randolph, Nerlens Noel?

By John Jones, Posted: 10/18/16 11:51AM EDT

The Charlotte Hornets will have to improve their frontcourt if they want to remain relevant in the Eastern Conference after losing veteran power forward Al Jefferson last summer.

Jefferson, who moved to the Indiana Pacers in the offseason, was a solid contributor to the Hornets last season. He averaged 12.0 points and 6.4 rebounds per game last season.

With him moving out of Charlotte, the Hornets are now in the hunt for another frontcourt player. Among the possible options mentioned are veteran Zach Randolph and budding defensive star Nerlens Noel.

Zach Randolph Moving To Charlotte Hornets?

According to Swarm And Sting, Zach Randolph is an intriguing option for the young Hornets squad. The 35-year-old could lessen the impact of Jefferson's departure last summer.

"He would provide the low post scoring that we lost when we lost Big Al," the report noted. "He also would solve a much needed rebounding problem. The veteran power forward has always been a twenty and ten threat ever since he joined the NBA. This is something that the Hornets have had short supply of the last few years."

Randolph averaged 15.3 points and 7.8 rebounds in 29.6 minutes per game last season. But despite performing well in 68 games he played last season, the veteran power forward has lost his spot in the starting lineup this season and might need a change of scenery.

Charlotte Hornets To Pursue Nerlens Noel?

The Hornets could also target Nerlens Noel, who has been mentioned in numerous NBA trade rumors since the 2015-16 NBA season ended. The 22-year-old is oozing with potential, which makes him an attractive option for most of the teams in the league.

The former Kentucky standout averaged 11.1 points and 8.1 rebounds on top of 1.5 blocks per game last season. But more than his production in offense, the Hornets will benefit from his defensive abilities.

The Philadelphia 76ers have a crowded frontcourt, featuring Noel along with Jahlil Okafor and Joel Embiid. One of the three will likely be dealt and Noel seems to be the logical choice for the 76ers.
