NBA Rumors: OKC Thunder Interested in Paul George To Replace Kevin Durant?
The Oklahoma City Thunder were considered as the biggest losers in the offseason. After going one win away from advancing to the 2016 NBA Finals, the Thunder lost superstar Kevin Durant, who joined Western Conference powerhouse Golden State Warriors.
With Durant moving to the Bay Area, the Thunder have no other choice but to improve their wing options if they want to become contenders. Who will be the next sidekick of superstar point guard Russell Westbrook?
OKC Thunder Targeting Paul George?
Indiana Pacers superstar Paul George is being mentioned among the possible trade targets for the Thunder, Thunderous Intentions noted. It is not a surprise, considering the fact that George is one of the best small forwards in the league.
Most fans already counted out George when he sustained a gruesome leg injury in 2014. However, the 26-year-old superstar silenced his critics last season after having a career year for the Pacers.
George averaged career-highs 23.1 points and 4.1 assists on top of 7.0 rebounds per game. More importantly, the former Fresno State standout had a relatively healthy season, playing in all but one regular season game.
The Thunder will become a strong contender with George. However, a George to OKC move is highly unlikely. The California native envisions a good future in Indiana. In fact, he recently told SiriusXM NBA Radio that he wants to win the MVP and challenge the Cleveland Cavaliers for Eastern Conference supremacy this year.
"I definitely want to be MVP this year," George said. "It's tough, as always. It would be a challenge. But with coach Nate and the guys that I got here, I'm in position to move into that spot."
With George out of the picture, Thunderous intentions mentioned other possible options for the Thunder, including Danilo Gallinari. The Nuggets are not in a position to contend in the Western Conference, which could make them open to trading Gallinari in salary-dumping move.
But for now, Westbrook will have to carry bigger loads on his shoulder until the Thunder find another superstar to help him. Who do you think should the Thunder target before the deadline?
