NFL Latest News & Update: Colin Kaepernick Keeping Starting Role For Now
Colin Kaepernick got his starting role back against the Buffalo Bills though his performance was far from impressive. It seems that he has picked up from the woeful stint that led to him being relegated to backup last NFL season though one game is not enough to fend off the rust.
That said, San Francisco 49ers head coach Chip Kelly may have just given Kaepernick another lease of life by announcing he would be the starting quarterback in NFL week 7 when they face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Bleacher Report reported.
Chip Kelly hardly left with a choice
With Kaepernick on the verge of making his second start this NFL season, the reality of it all is that Kelly has no other feasible options at quarterback. Blaine Gabbert has proven to be a bust so sticking to the 28-year-old is obviously the better recourse at this point.
Only time will tell of Kaepernick can truly come out with the same performance he did back in 2012 and 2013. The point here is that he once showed brilliance on the NFL field meaning all Kaepernick may need is a wakeup call, Mercury News reported.
At 1-5, the best that Belichick could do right now is use the remainder of the season to assess if players like Kaepernick are still worth saving. The road ahead will be rough with Kaepernick’s kneeling protests, but it could be the last chance to see if he is worth keeping or be allowed to depart.
Against the Bills, there were some bright spots for Kaepernick. Despite his struggles, he did manage to run 66 yards and finish as the team’s leading rusher. He could do the same, or even better against the Buccaneers though a victory is what can prove that Kaepernick still has the jets to be a starting quarterback for the charges of Chip Kelly.
