NBA 2016 Rumors: Will Celtics Acquire Rudy Gay?
The Boston Celtics are looking for another shot at the NBA trade market once again as they are moving this time to acquire Rudy Gay from the Sacramento Kings.
After a series of proposals to almost all the superstars in the league like Carmelo Anthony, DeMarcus Cousins, Klay Thompson, Anthony Davis, Hassan Whiteside, Paul George and many others, they will not stop looking for an upgrade on their roster.
Gay has been a subject of trade rumor for the past months. He already expressed his desire to leave the Kings after he informed the management that he planned to use his 2017 player option to become an unrestricted free agent. Gay considers himself unlikely to negotiate a new deal to return to the franchise, according to Yahoo Sports.
Based on the report by HNGN, the Boston Celtics and Sacramento Kings would have a trade that involves five players and two future picks. The suggested trade scenario was that the Kings will send forward Rudy Gay to the Celtics for guards Gerald Green and James Young and forwards Jonas Jerebko and Jordan Mickey plus two second-round picks.
The Celtics appear to be on the losing side of this trade by giving up four players and two future picks for a player. However, Rudy Gay's value seem to match what is being offered to the Celtics.
Gay has averaged 20.2 points, 6.4 rebounds and 2.8 assists with an impressive 42.9% 3-point shooting and 47.4% on the field goals this season which will definitely boost the offense of the Celtics. His skill set is also a big plus to the Celtics being an athletic big man that can post up, beat his defender in isolation, good cutter and a deadly shooter from outside.
If the Celtics were considering for a reliable player that can shore up their roster, they should try to take the risk of getting Gay. As for the Kings, they could take this deal rather than letting go of Gay in exchange for nothing in the free agency.
