Even though the show received high praises from fans and critics for its concluded pilot season, Netflix's "Luke Cage" Season 2 air date is not yet scheduled to make way for "The Defenders" in which the superhero will be joined by other Marvel fighters like Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Iron Fist.

"Luke Cage" is a web TV series created by Cheo Hodari Coker (Almost Human & NCIS: Los Angeles) for Netflix. It is derived from Marvel Comics character of the same name that tells the story of a wrongly accused man who escaped prison and became a superhero after he obtained super strength and durability due a sabotaged experiment.

Its first season garnered positive reviews from both fans and critics. Marvel's 'Luke Cage' first season was dubbed as the best Netflix/Marvel small screen series due to the confident, charismatic lead performance of the casts, according to Parent Herald.

Fans are left to speculate though as to the delay of its second season, since no greenlight from Netflix is imminent.

"Luke Cage" Season 2 is paving the way for the big crossover series "The Defenders," Mike Colter (Luke Cage) will be joined by Daredevil, Iron Fist and Jessica Jones.

Luke Cage and Iron Fist together were revealed to be 'Heroes for Hire' in the upcoming episodes during the Los Angeles Comic-Con last October 28.

Claire Temple (Rosario Dawson) is said to be seen on the shooting of the new Netflix series, not a surprise really since Temple personally knows Matt Murdoch and Luke Cage.

Netflix and Marvel, however, are said to be considering "The Defenders" as a priority and it is planned to be released by 2017 where Luke Cage will show up. And given that the Marvel/Netflix schedule is pretty full with season 2 for "Jessica Jones" and season 3 of "Daredevil" are set for 2018, it could mean that fans will be waiting for Luke Cage Season 2 until 2019.
