WWE Royal Rumble 2017 Spoilers, Latest News & Update: Wild Dish Could See Chris Jericho, John Cena Win Battle Royal
The Royal Rumble 2017 is the next big event that most are waiting for, a battle royal that may see another face-off between Bill Goldberg and Brock Lesnar. Though powerful, critics believe that winning the 2017 edition may be handed to someone else.
Goldberg and Lesnar don’t need to win the Royal Rumble 2017 with most under the impression that they will face off at WrestleMania 33 anyway. That is up for confirmation but the intent of the pay-per-view is really focused on setting up stars for a title opportunity in April 2017.
That said, the choice could be anyone. Two names have been suggested as possible winners – Chris Jericho and John Cena. For those following the storylines it could make sense, Give Me Sport reported.
For John Cena, winning the Royal Rumble allows him to face AJ Styles for the WWE SmackDown heavyweight championship once again. The intent is to tie Ric Flair’s record of 16 world titles which would be feasible under normal circumstances.
But where does this place the rumored John Cena vs. Undertaker match at Wrestlemania 33? Recall that Cena has been chosen to send off the “Dead Man” into retirement, something that should have happened at Wrestlemania 32.
With the changes, does this mean that Undertaker is not retiring? Or has the WWE selected another WWE star to face off with the “Phenom” in what could be his last match in the ring? Those questions alone somehow shove this John Cena Royal Rumble win sketchy.
On the other side, Chris Jericho could inadvertently win it all and target Kevin Owens Universal title. Word of such has been going around as of late which would ultimately put an end to the alleged best friend storyline.
Owens is believed to be feuding with Roman Reigns soon and if Jericho is primed to win the Royal Rumble 2017, “KO” will likely remain as champion and set the stage for a Kevin Owens vs. Chris Jericho championship card at Wrestlemania 33.
Then again, Jericho could target Roman Reigns’ United States title and not the Universal title, Daily DDT reported. This way, the partnership with Owens remains and both end up champions on WWE Raw.
