NBA Trade Rumors: Luol Deng To Timberwolves In Exchange For Zach Lavine; Shabazz Muhammad To Lakers?
The latest NBA trade rumor indicates that the Minnesota Timberwolves and Los Angeles Lakers are eyeing for trade transactions.
Last week, there was a report that Tom Thibodeau wants a roster change that will send some of his young talented players for a dependable veteran scorer. It was believed that Thibodeau wants to be reunited with his former Bulls players like Jimmy Butler and Luol Deng.
Jimmy Butler was involved in trade rumors during the NBA rookie draft when the Timberwolves wanted to get him but the Bulls demanded to get Andrew Wiggins. The Timberwolves declined the trade offer and Thibodeau tried to test his team out.
However, Thibodeau's test did not have early favorable results as the team had a 5-12 win-loss record this season. Thibodeau had too much pride to allow the team to keep losing and he also had the power to make personnel changes.
Thibodeau's first option could be Jimmy Butler who is balling like an MVP caliber type of player this season but the Bulls might demand more than Andrew Wiggins. Thibodeau's second option would be Luol Deng who had been struggling this season with the Lakers.
Deng would likely be the favorable among Thibodeau's option as he is dispensable for the Lakers. Despite of his big contract worth $72 million for four years, he only averaged 6.5 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 23.9 minutes.
According to HNGN, there is a possibility that Deng might move to Minnesota Timberwolves to unite with Thibodeau in exchange for talented young players Zach LaVine and Shabazz Muhammad.
If this trade will push through, Deng might be back in his old form when he averaged 19.0 points, 6.9 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game during his time with Thibodeau in Chicago Bulls.
On the other hand, the two UCLA alums LaVine and Muhammad will be a great addition to the Lakers as both of them can be a wing player who has the athleticism and size to score the basketball, especially LaVine.
This season, LaVine is averaging 19.4 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.4 assists which will be a great boost to the Lakers' offense. He could go strong for a lay-up and can sink three-pointers as well as taking advantage from his opponent through his size and quickness.
Even though the Lakers have young players, they still have veterans like Lou Williams, Nick Young, Jose Calderon as well as Metta World Peace that can provide leadership to the team.
If this trade rumor will be a reality, these two teams can both benefit from it but the Lakers can get the advantage of the trade.
