NBA Trade Rumors: Brandon Knight To Cavs; Iman Shumpert And Chris Andersen To Suns?
The latest NBA trade rumors indicate that Brandon Knight could land on Cleveland Cavaliers as the team is looking for a decent guard who can serve as Kyrie Irving's backup at the point guard position.
The Cavs are first in the Eastern Conference with a 12-2 win-loss record and they also rank second in NBA scoring behind their rival Golden State Warriors. The Cavs have a deep and talented lineup but the Warriors still looks to be best in the league after acquiring Kevin Durant.
The Cavs are still looking to upgrade their roster as they expect to meet their rival Golden State Warriors again in NBA Finals this season.
There are reports that the Cavs are interested in getting veteran point guard Deron Williams from the Mavs but if they want long term back-up point guard for Irving, they should consider acquiring Brandon Knight from the Suns.
Bleacher Report claimed that Knight has been playing fewer minutes and has fallen off his role for the Phoenix Suns as he was outshined by Devin Booker and Eric Bledsoe who are having a break-out year this season.
Knight averages 12.6 points (shooting 38.4 percent from two-point field goals and 31.1 percent from behind the arc), 3.1 assists and 2.7 rebounds in 25.0 minutes this season. All of his numbers went down as compared to 19.6 points (41.5% from two-point field goals and 34.2 percent from the three-point line), 5.1 assists and 3.9 rebounds in 36.0 minutes last season.
According to HNGN, there is a possibility that Cavs would acquire Knight to backup Kyrie Irving in exchange for Iman Shumpert and Chris Andersen to the Phoenix Suns.
Brandon Knight could play an important role in the team. It would give him the best chance to get his rhythm back after struggling this season. Although Knight is expected to play fewer minutes with the Cavs, he can provide a great role to this team like what Matthew Dellavedova did last season.
Acquiring Brandon Knight than Deron Williams is a smart move as Knight is more athletic and younger player. If ever this rumors will be a reality, the Cavs can expect that Knight could carry the second unit offense of the team.
