Bestselling author Anne Rice's "Vampire Chronicles" and Prince Lestat de Lioncourt enthusiasts were ecstatic when she announced that the television rights were back in her hands and that together with her son, Christopher Rice, they will develop a pilot script for an open-ended TV series.
In her official Facebook fan page, Rice broadcasted her plans of creating a television adaptation of the acclaimed 'Vampire Chronicles' novels.
"A television series of the highest quality is now my dream for Lestat, Louis, Armand, Marius and the entire tribe. In this the new Golden Age of television, such a series is THE way to let the entire story of the vampires unfold. - My son Christopher Rice and I will be developing a pilot script and a detailed outline for an open-ended series, faithfully presenting Lestat's story as it is told in the books, complete with the many situations that readers expect to see. We will likely begin with 'The Vampire Lestat' and move on from there," Rice stated.
The soon to be TV installment will be a 'Games of Thrones' style faithful rendering the material, Rice is said to be fan fervor for the epic show.
The American gothic author shared in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that the post had 2.8 million hits and it is absolutely great to know people are that interested and to have that kind of support is overwhelming.
As of the moment, the pilot script is in the planning stage, nothing is firm yet, as shared by the author but what is definite now is that the plot will start with the second book, 'The Vampire Lestat'.
"We want to start with him and his birth as a vampire, and go on from there. And at this point, tentatively, I see two seasons, maybe, to do the entire book."
When asked who she thinks would play the protagonist Louis, she hoped that it will be a beautiful actor like Matt Bomer (Magic Mike, Flightplan). In addition, the British actor Matthew MacFadyen (Anna Karenina, The Three Musketeers) will best portray Marius, one of the pillars of the Chronicles.
Fans better keep their bottles of champagnes out of reach yet, since Rice says that she'll be talking to potential producers once she and Christopher Rice have completed the pilot script and series bible. Better stay tuned!
