Free 'Gears of War 4' DLC Coming This December; What’s Included?
This Thursday, Microsoft announced that "Gears of War 4" has an update scheduled for December. The update brings a lot of stuff that will delight the players of the game. Additionally, The Coalition also announced the planned Cross-Platform Play event scheduled for the weekend.
Two new maps
According to GameSpot, the new "Gears of War 4" maps will be called Speyer and Glory. The Speyer map has a scenery that shows what life looked before the Locust War happened. It features large open areas and will have long sightlines perfect for proficient snipers.
On the other hand, the Glory map is a bad-ass looking map that has a fortress. Players who are able to hold that area will be able to make use of a mounted turret to attack enemies down below the courtyard.
The new maps will be added to "Gears of War 4" multiplayer hopper for all players on Dec. 13. Once they arrive, the maps Gridlock and Relic will be temporarily removed from the public playlists. This will apply to everyone except those who are season pass holders or players who have individually purchased them.
The free maps in the public playlists are available on a rotating basis. Gamers can buy the mentioned season pass or buy the map separately if they want to play a map removed from the rotation. Microsoft also confirmed their plans to drop two new maps every month until there are 24 "Gears of War 4" DLC by the end of 2016.
New Features, Fixes
Aside from the maps, the new "Gears of War 4" update also includes a number of improvements that will make the player's overall experience better reports Game Rant. The improvements include a daily reward system plus bonus credits and XP for season pass holders. There will also be prematch lobbies for both Core and Competitive playlists.
They are also planning to improve the online multiplayer experience by introducing tools that will help to discourage gamers from quitting their matches early. They will make "Gears of War 4" 33 percent off starting today until Dec. 28.
The Coalition has also teased players with what they call a special "Gearmas" event that comes with complete Christmas inspired heads for characters. If you played and check out their previous Halloween event, it is a bit similar to that. So this event will also come with new content to unlock plus a mode where players can use winter-themed versions of their preferred weapon. Additional information regarding the event will come these coming days so stay tune.
This weekend, The Coalition is hoping to solve the PC vs. console problem by trying out cross-platform competitive multiplayer. During this special test event, the developer is hoping to evaluate the possibility of a more permanent crossplay solution in the future that will allow Windows 10 and Xbox One users to play together in Versus outside of Private matches, PC Gamer noted.
The Crossplay Versus initiative is designed to be able to trial-run cross-play within a public playlist. However, there are no plans yet after the special event. What they know is that this weekend event will be an important first step of the process they are aiming for. The next step will be decided after combining their data and the feedback they receive from their players.
The devs will not be making any surprise changes suddenly that is based on what is about to happen this weekend. The developer is also calling out all their "Gears of War 4" players to sign up for the event because they will give increased win/loss XP incentive for match completion. The Crossplay Versus event will run from Dec. 2-5.
