College Hoops News, Scores and Updates: Dramatic Win for Auburn Tigers as they beat the Mercer Tigers at the Final Buzzer
The Auburn Tigers made it just in the nick of time! The Tigers faced the Mercer Bears at a jam packed Auburn Arena, Auburn in downtown Alabama where the crowd were chanting out the names of the their favorite teams.
Among the Tigers team who stepped up that night were Mustapha Heron, Austin Wiley and TJ Dunans. These three men where the center of attention during the game for different reasons. Heron finished the game as the leading scorer with 21 points, 7-for-12 FG, 2-for-4 3FG, 3 rebounds.
Austin Wiley made his basketball debut with the Tigers during the game. He ended the night with nine points and three rebounds in 15 minutes on the court. According to the report by Alabama.com, Wiley was emotional as he entered the game, but did not show it as the game was going on.
He said "I just had to keep my game-face, but it meant a lot. ... At first I was nervous, but when the game started flowing I started picking up. I got comfortable when the game got going."
But the real star for Auburn was the buzzer beater TJ Dunans. After being called for goaltending on a shot by Mercer's Ria'n Holland, and then converted a three-point play with 3.8 left to give the Bears a 74-73 lead, Dunans then made the game changing move and drilled a game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer giving the Tigers an amazing 76-74 win over Mercer.
Heron inbounded the ball towards Dunans with only 1.4 seconds left. Dunans then turned and made a fade away shot from the left securing the win for the Tigers.
Dunans said of his feat "From where I shot it, I knew it was going in. It felt good. It was a great moment. I'm just glad we got the win."
