WWE 2016 Latest News & Updates: Braun Strowman Poses New Obstacle For Roman Reigns Title Aspirations
Roman Reigns lost to Kevin Owens at WWE Roadblock, thanks to an uncanny move from Chris Jericho. Y2J hit his patented codebreaker on “KO”, causing Reigns to win by disqualification. Being a DQ, the title did not change hands.
While most were trying to figure out what the Jericho intrusion meant, the fact is Owens is still the Universal champion, WWE.com reported. Reigns will however get another chance at the WWE Royal Rumble 2017 though a new threat has joined the mix – Braun Strowman.
With Raw general manager Mick Foley unwilling to feed Sami Zayn to Strowman, the man-mountain went ballistic on the Dec. 19 edition of WWE Raw. After crushing Sin Cara, Strowman stuck his nose in the main event pitting Reigns and Seth Rollins vs. Owens and Jericho, WWE.com reported.
While it seems that Strowman’s actions were done to get Foley to pit him against Zayn once more, there is a chance that the big guy could be factored into the Reigns vs. Owens feud. With or without him however, it seems that the Universal title is not changing hands.
For those following the storyline, it is not merely a Reigns vs. Owens scenario. Rollins and Jericho are still in the mix and both did intervene at WWE Roadblock.
Rollins is likely to continue playing support to Reigns against “Jeri-KO,” at least until Triple H comes out to fulfill the wishes of the Architect. This is a feud expected to evolve and set up that mentor vs. student match at Wrestlemania 33.
For Jericho and Owens, the alleged best friends continue to keep the WWE fans guessing. The moves are uncanny and one gets that feeling that all this will reach a tipping point somewhere down the line.
It could happen at the Royal Rumble or maybe even after. What is unclear is how long Owens retains the title seeing Reigns struggling to make peace with the WWE Universe as the next face of the company.
