Blue Jackets Winning Streak At 10
After so much expectation at the start of last season, the Blue Jackets had a horrendous start and finished at the bottom of the Eastern Conference. What a difference a year makes.
There's still plenty of hockey yet to be played, but the Columbus Blue Jackets are now on a 10 game winning streak following their dramatic 3-2 shootout win over the Los Angeles Kings, setting a franchise record for most consecutive wins.
In fact, The Blue Jackets have not lost a game since Nov. 26 after dropping a 2-1 shootout in Florida. And they've now earned at least a point in 12 consecutive games, and have gone on a 19-2-3 run over the last 24 games, as well.
The Jackets currently trail the Penguins by a point in the Metropolitan division, with three games in hand. These two will meet on Thursday night, which should give us an idea just how good these boys from Ohio really are.
Veterans Sergei Bobrovsky and Nick Foligno have really stepped up this season with their leadership and with their game. Backup up goalie Curtis McElhinney has been steady this season, and was stellar the other night with his 44 save performance.
Add to this, the crop of young players who have been producing so far this season, and the Blue Jackets are looking like contenders. Players like Cam Atkinson, who led Columbus with two goals the other night, and newcomer Alexander Wennberg have had a big impact so far. Sam Gagner is also having his best season to date. The jackets also have depth with reliable veterans Dubinsky, Hartnell and Saad doing their part.
Columbus is in a tough division, and they'll need to show that they can compete with the big teams on a consistent basis. So far, so good.
