NCAA Basketball: Villanova Remain Favorites in The Associated Press Top 25
The Villanova Wildcats remain number one in the Associated Press Top 25, for the fourth consecutive week.
With an undefeated record of 12-0, Villanova is currently holding the number one spot in the country and in the Big East Conference rankings. They last played against the American University Eagles, where they dominated with a final score of 90-48. Per a post-game report by CBS Sports, shooting guard Josh Hart piled in 20 points, further increasing his stock value as the Player of the Year.
''We didn't come out, especially the three seniors, and set the tone early. Second half, he challenged us again. We had a good talk in the locker room," Hart said of his performance.
As far as the Associated Press rankings go, Villanova received 56 first-place votes from a panel of national media composed of 65 members. As reported by the Associated Press (via ESPN.com), Villanova holds a significant lead over UCLA, who only received three first-place votes.
Holding the third spot are the Kansas Jayhawks, followed by the the Baylor Bears. The final five teams on the list were the Oregon Ducks, the Cincinnati Bearcats, the USC Trojans, the Florida Gators, and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
On the other hand, the Jayhawks have been part of the rankings for the 150th consecutive poll, which they started in February of 2009. They are followed by the Arizona Wildcats, who are in their 86th consecutive poll.
Each team will be aiming to make their way further up the rankings as the season rolls on and they face their upcoming conference opponents. Second-seeded UCLA will be playing against Oregon, while Louisville will be playing against Virginia.
Villanova, meanwhile, will be putting both their ranking and undefeated win-loss record on the line, as they face the Creighton Blue Jays on Saturday. The game will be held at the CenturyLink Center in Omaha.
Villanova will be hard to beat, especially when we get to the conference tournament, and the madness of March.
