The Houston Texans are facing a tough situation, heading into their upcoming 2017 NFL Playoffs showdown against the Oakland Raiders. Starting quarterback Tom Savage went down with a concussion, giving the Texans no other choice but to opt for Brock Osweiler again.

Osweiler, who was part of the Denver Broncos squad that won the Super Bowl last year, signed four-year deal with Houston in the offseason. He started for the Texans, but coach Bill O'Brien made changes, tapping Savage as their starter.

Savage was already looking forward to the playoffs, but suffered concussion during their loss to the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. Osweiler then completed 21 of his 40 passes for 253 yards with one touchdown.

SB Nation earlier reported that Osweiler could get the nod against the Raiders after Savage failed to get clearance to practice with the team. It was speculated that O'Brien will go with the safer option, starting Osweiler because he might be readier, both mentally and physically, for the grueling Wild Card match.

According to ESPN, it was already confirmed the Osweiler was selected to start for the Texans. O'Brien will use the former Broncos backup, knowing that he is likely to get most of the reps in practice prior to the all-important showdown with the Raiders.

Osweiler has been a picture of inconsistency all-season long, but the 26-year-old insisted that he is prepared to start for the Texans. Before the news about him starting on Sunday broke out, Osweiler said that he is ready for any role but admitted that he wants to start in the playoffs.

"You play this game to be a starter," Osweiler said via ESPN. "You play this game to contribute in a positive way to your team, so I would absolutely love to start this playoff game. But at the end of the day, I don't make those decisions. My job is to prepare, whether I'm the starter or I'm the backup, and be ready to play."

Osweiler has completed 59 percent of his passes this season for 2,957 yards with 15 touchdowns. However, he has also 16 interceptions this season, which was one of the factors why O'Brien decided to replace him with Savage earlier in the season.
