Los Angeles Lakers Rumors: Nick Young A Possible Target For Cleveland Cavaliers
The Los Angeles Lakers and the Cleveland Cavaliers are two of the teams who have large fan base in the NBA. This is the reason why it not surprising that these two teams are continuously being mentioned in countless NBA rumors.
This time, the Cavaliers and the Lakers are linked to a possible trade involving Nick Young. Fox Sports listed Young among the possible trade targets for the Cavaliers after losing JR Smith to a thumb injury.
Smith will likely miss the remainder of the season after undergoing surgery to repair a broken thumb. The Cavaliers will surely miss his outside sniping before or even in the playoffs, knowing that he could be too rusty when he returns to action for the defending champions.
To brace for the worst, the Cavaliers will likely add another scorer before the NBA trade deadline next month. While there will be a lot of questions when Smith comes back, Fox Sports believe that the Cavaliers should consider making a run at Young if he is on the trading block.
"If you're going to replace JR Smith, stay in key," Fox Sports noted. "What happens after J.R. comes back is anyone's guess, but I do believe we'll need 24/7 access."
Young, who is playing in his 10th season in the NBA, is having a decent season so far. He is averaging 14.8 points on 47.7 percent shooting from the field in 26.4 minutes of playing time per game.
Young could become a dispensable asset for the Lakers. If they continue to falter, head coach Luke Walton will likely focus on his young players and trade his veterans. However, it is still unknown at this point what the Cavs have to offer if they decide to chase Young in the coming weeks.
This is not the first time Young was mentioned in trade rumors. There were also reports suggesting that he could be moved to the Memphis Grizzlies in exchange for Tony Allen, but there are no concrete details so far.
There is also a chance the Walton will push to keep Young in the roster, especially now that he has shown willingness to play defense. Young revealed to Los Angeles Times that Walton is now trying to label him as a defender, a role that he is willing to embrace.
