Jeremy Lin is out with a hamstring injury and there is no timetable for his return. When he recovers from the injury, it is unsure if he will still start for the Brooklyn Nets again, especially now that trades are looming as the deadline nears.

The Nets, who hold the worst record in the league at 8-25, need all the help that they can get. They are linked to several names who are reportedly on the trading block, including Minnesota Timberwolves point guard Ricky Rubio.

A trade for Rubio before the deadline makes sense for the Nets, Fox Sports reported. While Lin has the potential to be a solid point guard in Brooklyn, Rubio is still the better playmaker.

The Spanish point guard is known for his pass-first mentality and is also considered as one of the best defensive guards in the league. Rubio is averaging just 7.0 points on top of 7.1 assists and 4.0 rebounds this season.

His numbers are down despite getting slightly higher playing time this season. He also found the need to watch his back after the Timberwolves drafted Kris Dunn, who could eventually become their starting point guard. This is the main reason why most analysts believe Rubio will be wearing a different uniform in the second half of the season.

The Nets are not lined up among the talented teams in the league, which makes a deal for Rubio difficult. They might not have the assets the Timberwolves want in return, but the Fox Sports report suggested a possible deal.

According to the report, if the Timberwolves are really looking for frontcourt help to improve their playoff chances, the Nets will have a shot at acquiring Rubio. They could offer a package involving Trevor Booker.

Booker could be a good fit for Minnesota and frontcourt partner to 2016 NBA Rookie of the Year Karl-Anthony Towns. The 29-year-old veteran is averaging 9.9 points and 9.2 rebounds in 27.7 minutes per game this season.

Another possible deal could involve Brook Lopez if the Nets decide to part ways with the towering center, FanSided's Nothin But Nets previously reported. The report suggested a deal that will send Lopez to the Timberwolves in exchange for Rubio and Nikola Pekovic.
