Korver's New Teammates in Cleveland are Ecstatic, Welcome Sharpshooter with Open Arms
Kyle Korver, who is considered as one of the top sharpshooters in the NBA today, became part of the latest trade deal in the league after joining the defending champion Cleveland Cavaliers. And his new teammates are ecstatic and excited to have the 35-year old shooting guard in their lineup.
Frye on Korver, "Don't Get Jealous!"
"I was ecstatic, because now it's like, OK, who are you gonna stick to?" big man Channing Frye said, himself an established sharpshooter averaging 45.9% beyond the three-point arc as quoted by Lang Whitaker posted on ABS-CBN Sports. Frye added, "We have three or four guys who go downhill, so there'll be no more double teams. I mean, that paint is gonna be wide open."
Kyrie Irving concurs, "There are opportunities for [Korver] to be more open than he was in Atlanta," He further elaborated, "No disrespect to them, but we just have continuity in our offense and guys that can make plays that are willing to give up the basketball. The unselfish brand of basketball that we play, I can only imagine him coming off those pin downs. And whether he's open or not, we're telling him to shoot it."
Frye even gave praise to his new teammate, "I think [Korver] and JJ Redick, those are the only two guys off the top of my head that I know that can get a double team without the ball." But the big man is quick to point about having another shooter on the team, "Hopefully he doesn't get jealous of how wet my jumper is."
As what Terry Pluto of Cleveland.com has gathered, the Cleveland Cavaliers now have four of the NBA's top 35 shooters from beyond the 3-point line: Channing Frye (.465), Kyrie Irving (.420), Kyle Korver (.409), and Kevin Love (.395). Pluto added, "So the Cavs are shooting better from 3-point range than Golden State, and then acquired Korver."
Official Announcement - Kyle Korver goes to Cleveland
Earlier, Cavaliers General Manager David Griffin announced the acquisition of the All-Star sharpshooter, "We are extremely pleased to be able to add a player and person the caliber of Kyle Korver to our Cavs family," as posted on NBA.com. "Among the most prolific and dynamic three-point shooters in NBA history, a selfless, and team first competitor, Kyle brings all of the elements of Cavs DNA that we covet on and off the floor. We look forward to welcoming Kyle, his wife, Juliet and their three children to Northeast Ohio and are certain our fans will embrace them with open arms."
The Cleveland Cavaliers acquired guard Kyle Korver from the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for Mike Dunleavy, Mo Williams, cash considerations and a protected first-round draft pick (first possible pick is Cleveland's 2019 first round pick). If all goes as planned, Korver may suit up for the first time as a Cavalier this Sunday against the Phoenix Suns.
