New York Knicks Fine Derrick Rose Following His Unexcused Absence
The New York Knicks announced on Tuesday that Derrick Rose has been fined by the team upon returning from an unexcused absence. However, Derrick Rose is expected to play on Wednesday night against the Philadelphia 76ers.
New York Knicks News: Derrick Rose Explanation
Rose was late for a shootaround on Monday, and an unexpected scratch from the game against the New Orleans Pelicans later that day, after the Knicks repeatedly failed to reach Rose in the hours leading up to tip-off. According to Sports Illustrated, Rose had left the Knicks without approval to deal with a family issue in Chicago.
New York Knicks Coach Jeff Hornacek said the organization accepted Rose's account of the absence, and added that Rose's explanation about his family is totally understandable.
New York Knicks News: Derrick Rose Parental Separation Issue
Derrick Rose's 4-year-old son lives in Chicago, and the NY Post reported that the parental separation is weighing very deeply on Rose.
Rose told the media that it had nothing to do with the Knicks. It was the first time he has been so emotional and he needed to be with his family. Rose says "I didn't want any distractions to the team, especially what we have going on right now and I apologized to them, just letting them know it will never happen again. This wasn't me. This never happened to me before and I explained that to the team and the front office. I just had to get to my family. I talked to the team later. Everybody's on the same page now. They understood right away after I explained myself to them."
Derrick Rose Absence Caused The Knicks To Panic
Rose's absence reportedly left Knicks staffers and players in panic, as reported by Yahoo Sports. Brandon Jennings told reporters Monday night that he had only learned that he had to play in Rose's place only 40 minutes before the game started.
Jennings said "We haven't heard anything and I don't know anything. I found out 40 minutes before the game that I was going to start, so I just don't know anything. Definitely, a situation I've never been in and I just hope everything's all right. You know, Rose is a big part of this team, the starting point guard, so I just hope everything's all right."
