NBA Trade Rumors: Kevin Love-Carmelo Anthony Trade Still On?

By Jeff Harris, Posted: 02/15/17 03:11AM EST

For a brief moment, rumors about the New York Knicks trying to trade Carmelo Anthony slowed down. Yet it seems like the Knicks front office is dead serious about moving Melo in the hope of completely rebuilding the franchise around Derrick Rose and Kristaps Porzingis. And to make things even more palatable, the Cleveland Cavaliers could be inches closer from agreeing to trade Kevin Love for Melo, especially after his latest injury.

"It's just something to think about," FOX Sports NBA analyst and insider Chris Broussard told Jason Whitlock during Tuesday's episode of The Herd on FS1 when asked whether the Cavaliers should consider a Melo-Love trade, as posted on Fox Sports. But it's not about the 'non-chemistry' between Love and Kyrie Irving and LeBron James, though it has everything to do with the latter.

"LeBron is about winning it now," Broussard added, "Winning championships now." Broussard explained that LeBron's capacity of playing at this level might start to deteriorate anytime soon, could be next season or the next, "So it's about winning these championships now."

And with Kevin Love out for at least six weeks due to a knee injury, the thought of swapping Love with Melo is not that farfetched. Two things - first, there were rumors that LeBron was the one pushing for the Melo-Love trade, and two, Phil Jackson is determined to push Melo out of New York.

And though it will look like a handicap to trade Love who is out due to injury, Jackson is always looking out for long term goals. Speaking of long term plans, Kevin Love is four years younger than Carmelo Anthony, and this could be a big factor for Jackson. Plus, it's Kevin Love, and his name should ring a bell immediately.

Better Matchup against Golden State Warriors

Broussard also has a very interesting angle should the Cavaliers agree to trade Kevin Love - defeating the Golden State Warriors.

"Can you envision them against Golden State? Kyrie, LeBron, J.R. Smith, Carmelo Anthony and Tristan Thompson," Broussard said. He explained further, "Now Durant or Draymond has to guard Melo and LeBron. You know what I mean? One of those guys is going to get a little bit of a break against Love. They wouldn't get a break against Melo."
