NBA Trade Rumors: Carmelo Anthony Joining Russell Westbrook in Oklahoma City?
Carmelo Anthony is at the center of NBA trade rumors once again as the deadline approaches. The Knicks are reportedly entertaining offers for their superstar forward. Melo has been linked to several teams. This time, the Oklahoma City Thunder were also mentioned as a possible destination for the high-scoring forward.
The Thunder are relying too much on Russell Westbrook on offense. This is understandable after they lost Kevin Durant last summer after the former NBA Most Valuable Player signed with the Golden State Warriors.
Anthony could bring a lot to the table on offense for the Thunder, NewsOK reported. The 32-year-old forward is averaging 23.2 points on top of 6.1 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game this season.
Anthony will make it harder for teams to defend the Thunder unlike now where most of the focus is on Westbrook. There is an argument that Anthony might not be able to coexist with Westbrook because they both like to dominate the ball. However, the report pointed out that Anthony is also a great catch-and-shoot scorer.
Will the Anthony to OKC Thunder Trade Happen?
The Thunder could attract Anthony as well because of Westbrook. However, the Thunder will have to surrender a lot in order to acquire Anthony. They might also need to involve other teams to make the trade work in terms of salary.
Even if the Thunder give up valuable assets or players in the trade, it might also back fire because Anthony might turn down the deal, knowing that OKC will not have much talent to contend. Anthony has a no-trade clause, which means he needs to approve a trade, thus getting virtual control of his destination.
There were reports saying that Anthony will waive his no-trade clause if he will be dealt to the Cleveland Cavaliers or Los Angeles Clippers. However, the nine-time All-Star insisted that he still wants to stay in New York. In fact, he is planning to attract superstars to move to the Big Apple, Newsday reported.
"Yeah, I would like that," Anthony said of recruiting superstars. "I haven't tried yet this year. So I don't really know where we are with that. You're throwing a lot at me right now."
