Patriots News: Jimmy Garoppolo Compared To Greats By Julian Edelman
In Patriots news, backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo received some from his teammate, Julian Edelman. Edelman, who spoke on the NFL Network Tuesday, believes Garoppolo has the same level of confidence that Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers have.
On ESPN, Edelman complemented Garoppolo "The guy is a stud. He went out and played in the regular season and played very well. He has that kind of gunslinger-like confidence, that Brett Favre, Aaron Rodgers kind of confidence." Garoppolo did have a terrific regular season. He saw action in just six games, but had 43 completions for 502 yards and four touchdowns. He and Jacoby Brissett stepped up for the Pats when franchise quarterback Tom Brady had to serve a four-game suspension at the beginning of the 2016 season.
Unfortunately, Garoppolo's impressive performances may not be enough for him to stay with the Patriots. Many think the reigning Super Bowl champions could trade him this off-season since Brady is still performing at a high level and Brissett proved that he is an excellent second stringer.
Some of the teams believed to be chasing Garoppolo include the Chicago Bears and the San Francisco 49ers. The Bears are favored to land him if he leaves New England. The 25-year-old was born in Illinois and Chicago is rumored to be moving on from Jay Cutler this off-season.
The Guardian predicted that Garoppolo will join the Cleveland Browns when he bids farewell to the Pats. The Browns have struggled for so many years and one of the main dilemmas they have is at the quarterback position. That is why they are always been looking for someone of Garoppolo's ability.
For now, Garoppolo is with the Patriots and if they decide to keep him, he still has a year left on his contract. The 2017 NFL season would be his last year with them if no trade occurs. When the season ends, he would be an unrestricted free agent.
