NBA: Dallas Mavericks, Boston Celtics Among Teams Who Could Make a Run at Jahlil Okafor
Jahlil Okafor of the Philadelphia 76ers is one of the top names linked to many NBA trade rumors this season. With the NBA trade deadline only a week away, the Dallas Mavericks and Boston Celtics are among the teams who could make a run at Okafor.
According to Jessica Camerato of CSN Philadelphia, the Sixers were very close to trading Okafor earlier this week after holding him out against the Miami Heat and Charlotte Hornets. However, the possible deal probably fell through as he was given playing time again.
There are no clear teams with a lot of interest on Okafor since he is just a scoring big man who cannot rebound, pass or defend at a high level. However, these are the teams that should and could acquire Okafor, per Connor Learn of FanSided.
The Mavs are looking to get younger as the Dirk Nowitzki era is about to end in a couple of seasons. Okafor can be one of the building blocks of the new Mavs team, but he can also help them this season. His scoring is a big boost to the struggling offense in Dallas.
The Celtics are one of the teams linked to Okafor since last summer and the two teams can talk about a possible deal again. The 21-year-old's value is at an all-time low so the Celtics' two Brooklyn Nets picks are safe. Okafor will also benefit from playing under head coach Brad Stevens.
New Orleans Pelicans
The Pelicans and Sixers have a trade in place last week with Alexis Ajinca and a first-round pick going to Philly. However, the deal never went through but they could revisit the trade again and probably change the first-rounder to second-round draft pick.
The Bucks would not be on this list if not for the injury to Jabari Parker. Milwaukee needs scoring and Okafor can provide them that. The only problem for the Bucks is that their good defense will take hit due to Okafor's one-sided qualities.
Okafor is from Chicago and the Bulls were in talks with the Sixers regarding a possible trade. The Bulls are struggling at the moment and they have to make a decision if they want to compete or rebuild around Jimmy Butler.
