NFL Rumors: New England Patriots, Darrelle Revis Reunion Possible?
The latest NFL rumors link the New England Patriots to one of their former players who won a Super Bowl with them, Darrelle Revis. Potential concerns at the cornerback position were the reasons why Revis' name surfaced and was connected to the Pats in this year's free agency.
Revis is available on the market, but his recent legal battle and declining performance are preventing teams from acquiring him. He last played for the New York Jets who had no hesitations in letting him go as soon as the new league year started.
In a report by FanRag Sports, it was mentioned why Revis would be a great addition to the Patriots. First, Logan Ryan joined the Tennessee Titans. Then, the Malcolm Butler situation remains unresolved, although it appears that they are losing him this offseason via a trade with the New Orleans Saints. New England has Justin Coleman and Cyrus Jones, but both are yet to have a significant impact on the team.
The Patriots signed Stephon Gilmore, and Eric Rowe is still on the roster, but with all the uncertainties mentioned, they could need a nickelback. That is likely the role Revis gets with the reigning champions if he is granted the opportunity to reunite with them.
Unfortunately, Revis heading back to New England may be farfetched especially after his statements in the past when the Patriots were involved in the Deflategate scandal. During that time, he ripped the team and even said it was not him who they helped win a Super Bowl ring, it was the other way around.
The NFL offseason is full of possibilities and who knows, despite the trash talk, Revis might soon don the Patriots jersey once more. For now, he is on the market, waiting for a team ready to take the risk and sign him to a contract for him to continue his career.
