Kevin Durant Injury Update: KD Joins Warriors in Roadtrip, Could Return Before Regular Season Ends
The Golden State Warriors are just 5-5 without Kevin Durant, who has been out since February 28 due to a knee injury. However, the Warriors could be getting KD back before the end of the regular season and he is also joining the team in their current road trip.
According to Connor Letourneau of the San Francisco Chronicle, Durant will join the team in their two-game road trip that starts on Monday. The Warriors are going to visit his former team, the Oklahoma City Thunder, before traveling to Dallas to face the Mavericks the next day.
Kevin Durant has been progressing quite well from a Grade 2 MCL sprain in his left knee and he has started shooting the basketball with his teammates. He is expected to be re-evaluated by doctors next week and the Warriors are hoping that he will be back before the end of the regular season.
"You just try to let a guy rehab and do what he wants to do at his own pace. I feel like when you start talking to a guy, 'Hey, man, how you doing?' then all of a sudden they want to rush back. Take your time. Get right. When he's ready, obviously, we want him back out there," Draymond Green told Letourneau in an interview on Sunday.
The Warriors temporarily lost the top spot in the Western Conference to the San Antonio Spurs after losing three straight games last week. However, the team caught fire and they have now won three consecutive games heading to Oklahoma City.
Tensions are still going to be high in Monday's game despite Durant not playing due to his injury. According to Chris Haynes of ESPN, the Warriors are reportedly "furious" with the Thunder organization for the treatment of Durant in their game last February 11 at the Chesapeake Energy Arena.
The Warriors wanted the Thunder to give the 2014 NBA MVP some acknowledgment for all the things he did for the franchise during his nine years there. Nevertheless, OKC fans are still expected to boo Kevin Durant out of the building despite his injury.
