Dallas Cowboys Potential Destination for Darrelle Revis But Contract Price Matters
The Dallas Cowboys need some defensive improvements and with Darrelle Revis available on the free-agency market, the two joining forces might work. However, the veteran cornerback may need to change his asking price to have a bigger chance of signing a contract with the reigning NFC East champions.
The possibility of Revis heading to Dallas was discussed on NFL Total Access. His health was mentioned although it was viewed as a minor issue.
The biggest concern is his desire to have a lucrative deal. It was suggested that Revis should reconsider his high asking price since there are much younger and cheaper cornerbacks entering the league in the upcoming 2017 NFL Draft.
Revis is still viewed as a quality cornerback in the NFL. And at this point in his career, the Cowboys' defensive schemes under coordinator Rod Marinelli could be the best for him. The former Jets and Patriots star is only 31, but his game declined a bit in the past two seasons.
Dallas is a great destination for any free agent, especially with what the team achieved in the 2016 NFL season. The Cowboys returned to prominence last season, becoming contenders again. They regained control of their division. And even though they were eliminated early in the postseason, it was still a step in the right direction.
The Cowboys may be sleepers in the Revis sweepstakes for now. They have yet to resolve the issue with their former starting quarterback Tony Romo and the focus is likely on this matter. There is ample time in the offseason if they plan to pursue the one-time Super Bowl winner.
Dallas must hurry, though, since the New England Patriots are favored to land Revis. There is nothing significant happening, but the champs have been busy this offseason and might consider bringing Revis back. Revis won a Super Bowl with the Patriots before he returned to the Jets.
