Manny Pacquiao to Descend Down Under? Fight Jeff Horn Reportedly to Push Through
Top Rank boss Bob Arum is reportedly set to announce the Manny Pacquiao vs Jeff Horn fight scheduled in the middle of the year. While the bout is going to be in Australia, there is no confirmed location yet.
Previous reports identified Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane as the possible location of the fight. And Arum has already revealed that the Australian government already committed to raise the counterpart to make the fight happen Down Under.
Michael Koncz, the adviser for Pacquiao, is coy about the details of the negotiations with Horn's promoter, as well as the expected outcome from their end. "We are discussing the matter with Arum," he said.
In January this year, it was announced that the former Olympian and Filipino boxer would fight on April 23, but that was scuttled when Pacquiao was reportedly non-committal. Suddenly, talks about a possible fight with Amir Khan in the UAE surfaced with $38 million on the table.
And just as fast as the talks started, it quickly ended with a whimper. It turned out that the investors could not raise the needed money for the fight to happen. Khan was quickly discarded and Arum scampered to find a replacement for the mid-July fight.
Aside from Horn, Keith Thurman, Danny Garcia and Kell Brook were also named by Arum as possible opponents for Pacquiao's next fight. The Top Rank promoter also said the Khan fight is not off the table, but probably in November this year. He then gave his Filipino ward an ultimatum to decide whether to fight Horn or not so they can hammer another matchup.
"We're working out the final arrangements," Arum said of the Pacquiao vs Horn fight. "Right now we don't have the deal in place but we're down the homestretch. The fight is agreed to and we're working on the contracts."
