Dak Prescott, Ezekiel Elliott to Thrive Further with Zack Martin Staying with Dallas Cowboys
Young stars Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott were arguably the biggest newsmakers in the NFL last season. They arrived in the Big D and quickly made a name for themselves. Now, expect them to continue their ascension with the Dallas Cowboys as Zack Martin will protect them for two more seasons.
According to ESPN, the Cowboys picked the fifth-year option in Martin's current contract. This means he is staying in Dallas until 2018 and in that season will earn $9.34 million. Despite this, it was mentioned that it is a priority for him to have a long-term deal. The 26-year-old certainly deserves a lucrative pact, especially after all his contributions and achievements in just three years playing for the organization.
Martin was selected by the Cowboys with the 16th overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. Since being a part of the team, he immediately became one of the most important players on offense. His impressive performances already earned him three Pro Bowl selections.
FanRag Sports stated in its report that the Cowboys players who would benefit most with this move are Prescott and Elliott. Martin being with the Cowboys assures the star quarterback and running back that they will get the protection they need to do what they must do.
Martin leading the offensive line gives Prescott time to assess the field before passing the ball to his targets. This means he will have a better chance of completing his passes. Elliott, on the other hand, will have the opportunity to run more which could lead to numerous scoring opportunities.
The Cowboys are poised to contend again in the 2017 season and surely the goal is to win the Super Bowl. Making sure Martin is with them for at least the next couple of years is a step towards that cause.
