NBA Trade Rumors: 3 Potential Destinations for Jahlil Okafor This Summer
Jahlil Okafor has been involved in NBA trade rumors since last offseason and he was close to getting dealt at the trade deadline. Now that the regular season is over for the Philadelphia 76ers, Okafor is back on the trade block.
In a recent interview with Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer, Sixers general manager Bryan Colangelo was asked about the status of Okafor. Colangelo noted that he is open to trading the 21-year-old center if the right deal comes along.
"If a deal comes along that makes sense for both of us, then we will go ahead and make the deal... But if not, I'm happy to have Jahlil a part of this organization," Colangelo said.
The future of Okafor with the Sixers is up in the air. Only a handful of teams are going to be interested in an offensive-minded center who is not a good rebounder, passer or defender. Nevertheless, here are the three potential destinations for Okafor this coming summer.
The Sixers and Mavericks are no strangers to making a deal. Dallas acquired Nerlens Noel from Philly at the trade deadline, but he is set to become a free agent at the end of the season. Okafor would be a good fit for the rebuilding Mavericks and he is going to benefit learning from Dirk Nowitzki, who is also an offensive-minded big man.
The Hornets acquired Miles Plumlee at the trade deadline, but it has not panned out. Charlotte missed Al Jefferson's production and Okafor is the same type of player. He can easily start for the Hornets or even come off the bench to provide a lot of offense.
The Bulls were close to acquiring Okafor, who is from Chicago, at the trade deadline, per Keith Smith of Real GM. The two teams can revisit the trade this offseason, especially if the Bulls finally decide to rebuild. The Bulls are looking good in the playoffs, holding a 2-0 lead over Eastern Conference top seed Boston Celtics in the 2017 NBA Playoffs.
