Manny Pacquiao Next Fight: 'Pacman' to Start Promo Tour Down Under for Fight vs Jeff Horn
Manny Pacquiao will jet down to Australia on April 24 to start the promo tour for his fight against Jeff Horn on July 2. Top Rank promoter Bob Arum will be with the Filipino boxer to help drum up interest for the bout.
According to the report, the promo tour will descend on Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. As Arum explained, "It's going to be a blockbuster fight in Australia with 50 thousand people watching there live in the stadium."
In the same vein, the Australian promoter Duco Events will be flying in journalists from Australia and into the Philippines sometime next month so they can attend Pacquiao's training camp. The promoter is recognized by the World Boxing Organization (WBO) to promote boxing events for the Asia-Pacific. At this point, the training camp is still very fluid so journalists will either fly to Manila or Pacquiao's hometown of General Santos City, south of the Philippines.
Pacquiao's training camp will officially start on May 1, and coach Freddie Roach himself will be coming in to personally oversee the Filipino legend's workouts. About two weeks before the fight, Pacquiao and Roach will transfer their training camp near the Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane.
But Arum said that Pacquiao will not leave behind his responsibilities as a sitting senator of the Philippines. In fact, they have scheduled his training from Monday to Wednesday in Manila so he can still attend to his duties as a lawmaker. On Thursday to Sunday, he flies down to General Santos to continue his training there.
While Horn is undefeated in 17 fights, he is a huge underdog coming into the Pacquiao fight. Even at 38 years old, the WBO welterweight champ still commands respect especially after his win over Jessie Vargas in November last year. Roach even predicted that his ward will end his drought of no KOs when he faces the Australian slugger.
