NBA Rumors: Knicks Open to Trading Kristaps Porzingis for a Draft Pick and Young Player?
The future of Kristaps Porzingis with the New York Knicks appears to be in doubt after protesting his unhappiness with the franchise. The latest NBA rumors suggested that the Knicks might be open to trading Porzingis in exchange for a top draft pick and a young player.
The Knicks are on a downward spiral with Carmelo Anthony looking to stay in New York, Derrick Rose down with another knee surgery and Joakim Noah undergoing shoulder surgery. Add the fact that players like Porzingis are not happy with how Phil Jackson treated Anthony.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical, Porzingis does not like the direction the Knicks are going. He does not want Anthony traded while he believes the triangle offense is not going to work in New York.
The 21-year-old Latvian star expressed his unhappiness by skipping the exit interviews after the season ended last week. He will also spend the better portion of his offseason in Latvia and far away from New York. He also noted in an interview with FIBA.com that he wants to play for the national team, something the Knicks do not want to happen.
"Yes, absolutely. I would like to help the team get to the second round and have a great campaign," Porzingis said.
Jackson, who is the Knicks team president, insisted last year that Porzingis is untouchable. However, it seems like things could change with MSG chairman James Dolan fully behind Jackson's plans. According to Frank Isola of the New York Daily News, the Knicks might be open to trading Porzingis for a top draft pick and a player, per NESN.com.
It should be noted that it's just speculation on the part of Isola and trading Porzingis will make a lot of Knicks fans unhappy. However, the Knicks could explore the idea, especially if teams like the Boston Celtics, Los Angeles Lakers and Phoenix Suns put a great offer on the table.
